An Invitation to Play
at Maple Ridge Farm

Mornings 3-5 years old

Monday-Thursday, 8:30-11:30am

For 3, 4, and 5 year olds. Children must turn 3 before Sept. 1st.

This program is intended for children ages 3-5 years old. Recognizing children as inquisitive and playful learners, the morning program provides a welcoming environment for exploring. The daily rhythm provides children with a consistent routine. Hands-on learning will be the focus, with lots of opportunities to help on the farm, play outdoors, and experience the seasons.

Developmentally appropriate activities are planned each week based on the children’s interests and the seasonal changes at the farm.  A child’s day may consist of singing songs and finger plays, listening to a read aloud, baking banana muffins, drawing in their nature journal, painting at the easel, climbing on the play structure, looking at books, counting and sorting, helping feed the chickens, and exploring the nature table. We spend most of every day outdoors. Seasonal activities like digging in the garden, planting seeds, washing pumpkins, or catching ladybugs are integral parts of our day.

Daily Rhythm

8:30-9:00 am: Arrival and free choice play

9-9:20 am: Morning Meeting

9:20-9:45 am: Outdoor Play

9:45-10 am: Snack

10-10:15 am: Bathroom

10:15-10:45 am: Free Choice Play

10:45-11:15am: Focus-Art, Science, or Baking

11:15-11:35: Animal Care, More Outdoor Play

11:35-11:45: Story, Songs and Finger Plays

The Daily Rhythm is just a general idea of how our time together will flow. Essentially, if the children are engaged in an activity and the play is productive, the time spent in one area may vary. The children help guide the activity by close monitoring of their focus and enjoyment at the moment. If the group is restless the time spent may be less, and an additional activity may be introduced. We do however, follow the rhythm closely, so that the routine is consistent and the children know what to expect.
